Making Today Count

“Don’t count the days, make the days count.”
– Muhammad Ali

Summer greetings to all of you!

Although it’s roasting here in Arizona, I enjoy the freedom of summer. Vacation, swimming lessons, VBS and get-togethers with friends are a few of the things we’re enjoying these days. I’ve vowed to make the most of these two months, because come August, everything will be different in our household, as our daughter heads off to kindergarten! I can’t believe that day is so close. Where does the time go? It feels like I blinked and here we are.

Bittersweet is such an appropriate word to describe this upcoming change in our home. It’s hard to imagine the emptiness that we’ll feel in the house without her here all day, every day. I know that her brother and I will survive, but it will be different. Things will never, ever be the same.

But on the other hand, I know that she’s ready for school. I’m looking forward to seeing her learn and grow into who God made her to be.

And so, these thoughts linger in the back of my mind as we enjoy our summer days. I’m not counting the days until kindergarten, I’m making them count. So often we look to the future and miss out on the wonder of today. I know I’ve done that many times in my life. But the time passes too quickly, so I’m trying to slow down and cherish it.

Want to join me?
