Have you ever felt God ask you to do something that didn’t quite make sense?
Many years ago, a friend of mine, Georglyn, woke up early one Saturday morning and began praying. While she prayed, she felt God urging her to bake a loaf of bread and take it over to a friend. She didn’t quite know why, but she obeyed.
Meanwhile, the friend for whom she was baking the bread was in a panic. Unexpected houseguests arrived the night before and she didn’t have anything but butter and jam to feed them for breakfast. Times had been tight for their family and food was scarce. She didn’t know what to do.
A short while later, she heard another unexpected knock at the door. It was Georglyn, with a loaf of hot, freshly baked bread. She explained how God laid it on her heart to bake the bread and bring it over. The second woman was so grateful for God’s provision and for Georglyn’s obedience!
We may not understand why God asks us to do certain things sometimes. But we trust in 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV), “We live by faith, not by sight.”
We trust that God has a plan and a reason for asking us to give, whether it’s our tithe, an offering, or when He asks us to give of our time and energy to help or encourage someone. May we be obedient to bake the bread when He asks!
Lord, please give us ears to hear You and a heart to obey You when You ask us to do things that don’t always make sense. Help us to quiet our hearts so we can recognize Your voice when You speak to us. Amen.
