Happy December 1st!

As we leave November and Thanksgiving Day behind, let's not forget the importance of giving thanks. May we remember to be thankful as we go about our busy Christmas season:

We can be thankful for all the things we "have to do," aka get to do, like shopping, shipping, and sharing our time.

We can be thankful for long lines, they present an opportunity to worship while we wait.

We can be thankful for extra activities, they are opportunities for us to make memories.

We can be thankful for the cold weather that encourages us to snuggle up with our family and a warm drink.

We can be thankful for the friends and family we will see at parties and gatherings.

Most importantly, may we be thankful for Jesus, God with us, who is the entire reason we celebrate Christmas.

This time of year, we need to create extra margin

This time of year, we need to create extra margin in our lives. The holiday hustle and bustle is fun, but can quickly turn stressful when you are late because of traffic. Or because the line at the store took a lot longer than you had planned.

Give yourself the gift of an extra 15 minutes:
- Leave 15 minutes earlier
- Anticipate that a quick trip to the store will take 15 minutes longer
- Go to bed 15 minutes earlier

Your future self will thank you!

Isn't it the worst when you need just one of something—for a recipe, a gift exchange, or a birthday —and you have to make a special trip to the store? Because it gets dark so early this time of year, once I'm in the house, I don't want to leave!

Mom tip for this week: buy an extra of things you might need later, while you're out at the store or shopping online. It never hurts to have an extra case of juice boxes, box of granola bars, can of chicken broth, tube of toothpaste or a few gift cards to have on hand for when you'll need them.

Over the weekend no one had signed up for snacks for my son's football game. I checked the schedule before we left to the game and saw the spot was empty. We had enough snack-sized bags of chips and an extra case of Capri Suns. I didn't have to make an extra trip to the store, I just grabbed the extra supply of what I had.

This is a great practice for any time, but especially this time of year! It's inevitable that we may need just one more teacher gift, Christmas card, or container for cookies to give to neighbors. Grab an extra few while you're already shopping and it will save you some time and sanity later.

Last year I created a playlist on my phone called Happiness. For those days when the world felt heavy, I wanted to put on music that would help put me in a better mood. It's amazing how we can feel so much better after bopping along and dancing to fun songs. I also wanted a playlist I could put on for an instant dance party with my kids in the kitchen.

This morning as I drove to my MOPS meeting, I put my playlist on because it felt like a fun way to start my Monday. 😎
