Hi! I’m Andrea Fortenberry. I write and speak on marriage, motherhood, friendship and faith. I love to help women seek and see God in their everyday life. Being a wife and mother of two gives me lots of material and teaches me oh so many things.

This is 38 and I’m here for it! 🎉 For this month’s Five Things Post, I’m sharing what I learned from year 37.

1. God opens the doors in His timing: Keep asking, seeking and knocking. Trust Him in the waiting. He will bring you the right people and opportunities when the time is right.

2. There’s More to Health Than Weight: I’ve been working out regularly since March and have also gained five pounds. Would I like that number to go back down? Sure, but I’m trying to focus more on how I feel stronger and healthier than before and not that number on the scale.

3. Doing Special Things for Yourself is Important: Sometimes that’s exercising, buying a new book, polishing your nails or getting your car washed. Caring for yourself well isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

4. You Can Have Peace in a Pandemic: I went through this in-depth in Episode 5 of my podcast, but I’ve learned in previous seasons that even “when my world is shaking, heaven stands,” as JJ Heller sings. Even though so much is going on that I can’t control, the sun still rises and sets, the stars are still in place, and God is still in control. Yes and amen.

5. Getting Older is a Gift: We try to avoid the aging process, but it’s inevitable. Even though I have more gray hair (which I currently pluck out—keeping it real) and fine lines and have to stretch every day, I’m loving each year more and more. With every birthday, I am so thankful to the God who made me and who gifted me with this one and only life. May it be an offering to you, Lord. 💕

I described to her how I was feeling as a mom and she captured it so well. Motherhood is definitely a juggling act and we are inevitably going to drop things sometimes, but let’s make sure we drop the things that don’t really matter so we can focus on what does. 💕
