One of my favorite books of the Bible is the book of Psalms. I love the honesty of the authors. In this book you’ll find stories of both tragedy and triumph, prayers and praise. This is the book I turn to when I feel unsure or need answers. It reminds me that God is in control of my life and that I have so much for which to praise Him!
Today I’m sharing another video I did for Seasons with my friend, Leisa. I’ll be talking about Psalm 77:1-14 (NIV), which says:
I cried out to God for help;
I cried out to God to hear me.
When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered you, O God, and I groaned;
I mused, and my spirit grew faint.
Selah
You kept my eyes from closing,
I was too troubled to speak.
I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;
I remembered my songs in the night.
My heart mused and my spirit inquired:
“Will the Lord reject forever?
Will he never show his favor again?
Has his unfailing love vanished forever?
Has his promised failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
Selah
Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will meditate on all your works
and consider all your mighty deeds.
Your ways, O God, are holy.
What god is so great as our God?
You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.
In the video I mentioned writing things down, particularly our prayers and God moments, so that we have a written reminder of what God has done in our lives. I’ve done this for many years and enjoy looking back and seeing how God has answered my prayers. Often, it’s not in ways that I would have asked for or expected, but I can see how His love and faithfulness are woven throughout my days and years. Like the author of Psalm 77, I’ve learned this important truth: It’s not so scary to trust God with your future when you have a record of all He’s done in your past.
How have you seen this in your own life? I’d love to hear about it!
