You Were Made to Live Imago Dei

March 8, 2019 By admin

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness. . . ‘ So God created human beings in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:26a;27

You and I were made imago dei, in the image of God. We were made to reflect His light and love through our lives. Not just some of us, but all of us!

How we do this will look unique for each of us because we are unique: God created male and female and gave each different attributes that reflect His character. We are different by design! One is not better than the other, we were designed to complement each other and to reflect our Maker.

In addition to being male or female, God gave each of us our own individual strengths, talents and experiences. Not one single person’s life experiences and perspective are the exact same as anyone else’s. This means that we have a lot to offer the world because there’s no one else exactly like you! Isn’t that so cool?

Last year I read a wonderful book on this topic by Hannah Anderson called Made for More*. In the book, she says that our true identity isn’t in our roles (like mother, wife or sister) or what we do for work. Our identity is based in Him. The more we know Him, the more we will know ourselves.

So if you’ve found yourself searching for identity, purpose or meaning, you are actually searching for God. Because He made you, He is the only One who can fulfill you and answer these deep questions. The more you understand Him, the more you’ll understand how and why He made you and what you were put on this earth to do. You were made to live imago dei.

Personal reflection questions:

  • How do you reflect the image of God to the world?
  • What steps can you take to become more confident in who God made you to be?

I do accept as true with all of the ideas you have introduced on your post.

They’re really convincing and will definitely work.
Still, the posts are too short for beginners. May you please lengthen them a bit from next time?
    Thanks for the post.
